ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - A tough challenge awaits the UCF rowing team this weekend as the Knights travel to California for the Stanford Invitational at Redwood Shores. The regatta opens up Saturday morning with UCF battling No. 6 Southern Cal in the varsity 8+.
Also competing Saturday and Sunday with the varsity 8+, the second varsity 8+, varsity 4+ and novice 8+ will take on the likes of Washington State, Stanford and UCLA. WSU and UCLA enter the event with both its varsity 8+ boats nationally ranked at No. 5 and No. 16, respectively.
Last weekend, UCF battled several Eastern and Midwestern schools at the Virginia Invitational, with the Knights' varsity 8+ defeating Columbia but falling to Wisconsin and No. 7 Michigan State. The novice 8+ did go undefeated, topping Oregon State, Virginia and Michigan State.
