Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Head coach Todd Dagenais and the UCF volleyball team were selected by the Lance Armstrong Foundation and Demand Media to film an instructional volleyball video that will appear on LIVESTRONG.com later this year. Dagenais and the Knights will be the only group on the site giving instruction on the game of volleyball and when launched fans can see the instructional video and a bio and head shot of Dagenais, who was picked by video producers as the site's volleyball expert. Filming for the project began Thursday afternoon and will conclude Friday evening in the UCF Education Gym.
"It is a great honor to be asked by the Lance Armstrong Foundation to be their expert in the field of volleyball," Dagenais said. "It is exciting to be able to showcase our student-athletes on a website for a great cause, and to be able to show the world how we teach the game of volleyball here at UCF. It is something that we are really proud to be asked to do and is something that we are really enjoying doing. I was really pleased that our team came out and volunteered to do something like this for such a worthy cause."
Founded by Lance Armstrong, LIVESTRONG.com will feature educational and instructional videos of a wide spectrum of health, exercise and nutrition information to help people around the country live better and healthier lives. The site looks to provide between 3,000-4,000 video segments in numerous different categories when it launches later in 2008. An exact date for the site launch has not yet been announced.
Redshirt freshman Kristin Fisher (Clearwater, Fla.), junior Andrea Youngblood (Castle Rock, Colo.), sophomore Lauren Williams (Lake Mary, Fla.) and assistant coach Sam Shweisky are just a few of the Knights that will be joining Dagenais in the instructional video, performing basic to advanced level volleyball skills, ranging from underhand serving to the art of attacking the ball.
"Today we did filming for the Lance Armstrong video, and basically it is just a how-to video on how to play volleyball," Fisher said. "It is an honor that they picked UCF out of everywhere in the country to do the shoot and it was a really fun and great experience. I will definitely be able to look back on this years from now and be proud that I did it."
The UCF volleyball team will open its 2008 campaign at the Georgia Southern Tournament August 29-30.
