UCF Football Spring Practice Report: Day 15

April 15, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF football team concluded what head coach George O'Leary called a `very productive' spring season on Tuesday with a one-hour workout inside Nicholson Field House. With unusually cool temperatures outside, the Knights took advantage of the indoor facility for the second-consecutive day to wrap up their 15th practice of the spring and put the finishing touches on what the coaching staff wanted to accomplish.

"We worked on situational football these last two days," offensive coordinator Tim Salem said. "We gave some of our younger players, inexperienced players some time working in the two-minute drill, worked on some of our techniques, protections and made sure our alignments were correct - small things that need to be coached. There was still meaning to these practices. It is not liked we went out there and kicked the ball around for 20 minutes and called it a day. We still went out there with a purpose."

The Knights were in shorts and helmets for the second-straight day after seeing their last full-contact action of the spring in Saturday's annual spring game at Bright House Networks Stadium. The focus of the last practice of the spring was to fine-tune what has been installed through the previous 14 work outs.

Following a 10-minute individual session, the remainder of the practice was split into skeleton drills and team drills where the players got one last chance to implement what they have learned over the course of the last four weeks on the practice fields.

"These are the youngsters that are going to be playing for us next fall, so you hope the recall is there from what we've learned when we get back in the fall," Salem added. "They have to take coaching and we have to keep coaching, so we can all put it together."

Next up for the Knights will be the 2008 season-opener vs. South Carolina State on Aug. 30 at Bright House Networks Stadium. Season tickets for the 2008 season are currently on sale and more information can be obtained by calling 407-823-1000.
