ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - As the UCF rowing team enters the guts of its 2008 schedule, the Knights will host their second and final regatta of the year Saturday on Lake Pickett. The UCF lightweight and novice teams will be competing vs. Princeton starting at 9 a.m. with action continuing at 11:50 a.m.
Also seeing time in the water this weekend will be UCF's top varsity 8+ and novice 8+ boats. The Knights will be traveling to Charlottesville, Va., for the Virginia Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
UCF has had two weeks to prepare for its regattas here in Orlando as well as in Virginia. It is coming off an impressive display vs. Miami March 29 at Lake Pickett, where the Knights won three of four events against the Hurricanes.
Saturday's clash with Princeton will be a good opportunity to see where UCF rates among one of the nation's top programs, as the Tigers' lightweight squad is ranked No. 1 in the country.
For the openweights, they will have a tough task as well in Virginia. UCF's varsity 8+ boat, which is receiving votes in this week's coaches poll, is set to take on Wisconsin and Columbia on day one with both of those programs also receiving votes. On day two, the Knights get together with the seventh-ranked Michigan State Spartans. The novice 8+, varsity 4+ and second varsity 8+ all will be represented by the Black and Gold this weekend as well.
Fans are encouraged to check www.UCFAthletics.com in case Saturday's start time at Lake Pickett changes, as high winds may force the schedule to be moved to approximately 7 a.m.
