ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - One match remains before the Conference USA Championships April 17-20, and the UCF women's tennis team will stay at home to close the regular season with a Friday showdown vs. Stetson. The battle will begin at 2 p.m. with free admission to the UCF Tennis Complex.
UCF has claimed two-straight victories, defeating UAB and Memphis by identical 4-0 scores, and owns a 6-3 record at home this season. The Knights will bring a 10-8 overall mark into Friday's action, as six singles players have at least 12 wins on the year. Leading the way has been senior Anna Yakimchenkova who is 17-11, while classmate Kyla McNicol stands at 16-8.
Senior Jennifer Carati has been shining in doubles play, where she has combined with junior Elvira Serrot for a 16-6 record. The duo has won nine-consecutive outings heading into the meeting with Stetson.
The Hatters have a 13-9 record in 2008 and had won seven in a row before dropping a 6-0 decision to Florida April 9. Valentina Galbarini has paced the singles lineup, going 13-7 from the No. 1 position. She also has partnered with Unnati Purushotham at No. 1 doubles for a 14-8 dual-match record.
Stetson holds a 26-16 all-time advantage over UCF, but the Knights defeated the Hatters in last year's meeting, 5-2, in DeLand.
