UCF Spring Football Outlook - Tight Ends

April 10, 2008

2008 Spring Football Prospectus

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Despite losing its best blocking tight end from a year ago to graduation, UCF has a deep group at the position this spring. Junior Corey Rabazinski, who has made 15 starts during his time with the Knights, is the leading candidate to fill the void left by the departure of Mike Merritt.

In 2007, Rabazinski recorded 10 catches for 66 yards. He also had a pair of touchdown receptions.

A year ago, Merritt appeared in all 14 contests and had 12 receptions for 161 yards.

Rabazinski is the lone returning tight end with game experience, but position coach Brent Key does have a talented group behind the projected starter.

Redshirt freshman Adam Nissley has impressed the coaching staff in the spring and will compete for playing time in the fall. Duke transfer John Lubischer will provide depth at the position after sitting out the 2007 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Sophomore Ricky Yates has spent the last two seasons as a member of the offensive scout team. He will get a chance to earn playing time, as will walk-on Willie Gaetjens.

UCF will hold its annual spring football game on Saturday as part of the 2008 UCF Hall of Fame Weekend. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. and the game will be played for the first time in Bright House Networks Stadium.
