ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - On Friday evening, nine individuals will be inducted into the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame at a dinner at the J. Rolfe Davis Recruiting Room at Bright House Networks Stadium. The event is part of UCF's inaugural hall of fame weekend, which also features the football spring game on Saturday at the stadium.
The hall of fame dinner begins at 6 p.m. To purchase tickets for the event, contact Misty Knight in the Golden Knights Club at 407-882-1289 or mknight@athletics.ucf.edu.
A star of the UCF women's soccer team from 1991-94, Kelly Kochevar is one of five former letterwinners who will be inducted into the hall of fame on Friday. Her 53 career goals and 20 game-winning goals rank first all-time in school history.
On five occasions during her career, Kochevar registered hat tricks. She is also tied for first in program history with goals in six-straight matches.
Kochevar currently lives in Dallas, Texas, where she serves as an advisor at the University of Phoenix. She recently spoke with the UCF athletics communications staff about joining the hall of fame.
Describe your emotions about joining the hall of fame.
"I am really excited. I am a little nervous. I have been thinking about my speech for some weeks now. I kind of know what I am going to say. Everybody that I tell [about the induction] has said, `I knew you were good, but I didn't know you were that good.' It is nice to be recognized again, even though it was a long time ago. I'd like to think that everybody who is being honored is part of why [UCF] is so successful now. It is really cool. People know who we are."
What do you consider to be your top athletics memory from your time at UCF?
"The goal that I scored to break the record (career goals at UCF). It was really an out-of-body experience. I do not know how I made it through the rest of the game. I was proud."
