Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - With the Conference USA Championship only a few days away, the UCF women's golf team will be able to take the momentum of being tied for 28th in the latest Golf World/NGCA Coaches' Poll with them to El Paso, Texas for the 54-hole event. The third poll of the spring was released on Wednesday with the Knights tied with Arkansas State with 23 votes a piece.
The Knights have consistently played against the toughest fields in women's collegiate golf this season and the head coaches around the country are taking notice of the team's improved play on the course.
"That is exciting to know that the coaches we are playing against are recognizing us as one of the top teams in the county," Klein said. "We are playing really well right now as we continue to prepare for the conference tournament next week and this will only help build our team's confidence."
UCF, who has tied for third in the previous two C-USA Championships under Klein's guidance, will compete against the league's other eight women's golf programs on the Butterfield Trail Golf Club, April 14-16 in El Paso. The Knights are the second-highest ranked C-USA team in the poll, only one vote behind East Carolina, who was 27th with 24 votes.
The Knights are ranked 41st in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and ranked 42nd in the latest Golfstat head-to-head rankings. A victory at the C-USA Championship will guarantee a spot in the NCAA Regionals for UCF for the first time since 2002.
