UCF Men's Golf Continues Rise in National Rankings

March 5, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Following an impressive performance a week ago, the UCF men's golf team has moved to 17th nationally in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. The Knights are also the 21st best squad in the country according to the Golfstat rankings.

In their last event, the Knights took the team title at the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational on Feb. 26. UCF finished ahead of several nationally-ranked squads, including No. 24 Ole Miss and No. 28 Chattanooga.

Junior Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) and sophomore Mike Stern (Miami, Fla./Killian) helped UCF to the victory, sharing co-medalist honors at the event. The tournament was the second of the spring campaign for the Knights.

The victory was the first for the program since it claimed the same event in 2005. Following the tournament, Forest and Stern shared Conference USA Golfer of the Week honors.

In 2007-08, UCF has competed in seven tournaments and has recorded top-three team finishes on three occasions.

The Knights will not be in action again until March 23, when they compete at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in South Carolina.
