UCF Football Spring Practice Report: Day Five

March 30, 2008

Orlando, Fla. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF football team worked out in front of close to 200 spectators as the Knights opened their second week of spring practices on Sunday afternoon. Following close to an hour and a half of individual drills and installation work, the team scrimmaged for the final 30 minutes of the session.

"Both sides had a quality day, but the defense is ahead of the offense at this time of the year and they should be," head coach George O'Leary said. "I saw some good things on both sides of the ball. We have to continue to get bodies on bodies. The passing game is always the last thing to come around, but I saw some good things."

At the close of the practice, the Knights went head-to-head on the goalline with the defense holding the upperhand in keeping the offense out of the endzone. "Defense, they have nine returners, so they should be better," O'Leary added. "The defense, obviously inside, we have some depth there and it shows when you scrimmage."

Seniors Johnell Neal and Corey Hogue were responsible for some big hits down around the goalline to help keep the Knights' offense from scoring. Redshirt freshman Ronnie Weaver did put the ball the endzone late in the short-yardage scrimmage when the running back found a crack in the defense from a yard out.

UCF will hold its annual spring football game on Saturday, April 12 as part of the 2008 UCF Hall of Fame Weekend. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. and the game will be played for the first time in Bright House Networks Stadium.
