ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - On Friday, the UCF men's tennis team hosts Louisiana Lafayette to conclude a three-match homestand. First serve at the UCF Tennis Complex is set for 2 p.m.
The Knights (8-7) are 5-2 in the month of March.
Freshman Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) has been a major factor in UCF's strong month. After moving to the No. 5 singles spot on Feb. 24, he holds an eight-match winning streak. Romano has recorded wins against No. 51 Tennessee Tech's Juan Pablo Gomez, No. 57 UC Irvine's Stephen Stege and No. 44 Denver's Andrew Landwerlen.
Four other Knights have had strong months, too. Senior Sinan Sudas (Adana, Turkey), juniors Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) and Tarek Ben Soltane (Tunis, Tunisia), and freshman Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla./Washington) have all registered five singles wins in March.
The Ragin' Cajuns (5-6) are riding a three-match winning streak.
Piotrek Banas has prevailed in five-straight singles matches for Louisiana Lafayette, including a win at No. 2 against 23rd-ranked Tulsa's Ricardo Soriano, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7), during the stretch.
Louisiana Lafayette owns the all-time series, 2-0.
Admission to all UCF home matches is free.
