Serrot Receives C-USA Women's Tennis Player of the Week Honors

March 25, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Thanks to a dazzling performance on the courts, UCF junior Elvira Serrot (Madrid, Spain) was selected as the Conference USA Women's Tennis Player of the Week the league office announced Tuesday. Serrot had a combined 4-0 record to help the Knights (8-8) go 1-1 last week, including a 6-1 victory over UTEP.

For Serrot, it was her first weekly honor of the season and second of her career. The last time she was named the C-USA Player of the Week was when she collected a perfect 4-0 mark against No. 28 UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton during the 2007 campaign.

Serrot opened her performance last week against UTEP March 22, and partnered with senior Jennifer Carati in No. 2 doubles. The duo had little trouble defeating Ximena Fuentes and Marina Deluca in an 8-2 win. Serrot then took part in singles action, where she cruised past Megan Pritchard at the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-1. One day later vs. Wisconsin, she paired up with Carati again at No. 2 to get by Morgan Tuttle and Emese Kardhordo, 8-5, before quickly defeating Kardhordo, also at the No. 2 position, 6-0, 6-2.

The Madrid native finished the weekend by surrendering just three games in singles play to help improve her overall record on the year to 12-14. Meanwhile, Serrot and Carati now own a 16-6 record and have won nine-straight matches together.

Serrot and the Knights get back to work March 4-5 when they meet both UAB and Memphis in Memphis, Tenn.
