UCF Football Holds Pro-Day For Draft Eligible Knights

March 20, 2008

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF football program held its annual Pro Day on Thursday at Wayne Densch Sports Center and the Nicholson Fieldhouse. The event lasted for just under three hours as 23 National Football League teams and three Canadian Football League teams had representatives on hand to watch the draft-eligible players from the Knights' 2007 roster.

In all 37 scouts and team personnel were in attendance as more than a dozen former Knights showcased their skills for a chance to play professional football. The players were measured for weight, height and agility before taking part in a number of drills, including the vertical leap, broad jump and bench pressing repetitions of 225 pounds, while in the weight room.

Following their work in the weight room, the players ran the 40-yard dash and different types of shuttle runs before taking part in individual workouts.

Two of the more noteworthy attendees was the Carolina Panthers' general manager Marty Hurney and Jacksonville Jaguars' assistant head coach Mike Tice, whose son Nate is a redshirt freshman quarterback at UCF.

Several former Knights currently in the NFL were also on hand for the workouts to observe their former teammates. Denver Bronco wide receiver Brandon Marshall and Jaguar wide receiver Mike Walker were two of those in attendance.

"This is like a fraternity," Marshall said. "To come back and see how hard these guys are working to be successful is impressive. (Playing at the next level) is a childhood dream for a lot of us players and to see other UCF guys achieving that brings a lot of joy to my heart."
