ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - In April, the UCF men's and women's basketball programs will move into their new practice facilities when renovations are completed inside the old UCF Arena. The renovations will provide each program with its own practice court, as well as new offices, locker room and player lounge facilities.
A permanent wood floor has already been installed on the men's practice court. In the next few weeks, crews will sand the floor down, paint logos and lines and apply a finish. The design of both courts will be identical to the floor inside the new UCF Arena, except the logo at center court will be smaller.
The court will feature both the men's and women's 3-point lines.
Each practice court contains six baskets. On Thursday, representatives from Daktronics were installing shot clocks on the two main baskets at each facility. Scoreboards have already been placed above each court. Renovations at the facility began in the fall.
Offices inside the old arena are now complete. Where the second floor lobby was once located, offices for the men's and women's basketball and volleyball coaches have been constructed.
On the first floor, the old volleyball offices will be transformed into the women's soccer office. The track and field staff will utilize the old women's basketball offices.
In addition to a 2,000-square foot weight room, the main level contains men's and women's basketball and volleyball locker rooms that provide access into the new UCF Arena, and the new facilities' training room. A new equipment room has also been constructed.
Towards the back of the building, a women's soccer locker room has been built inside the site of the old men's basketball offices. The old women's soccer office has been transformed into a locker room for the track and field squad.
Balfour Beatty Construction, the same firm that built the new arena, is handling the 50,000-square foot renovation inside the old building. The main floor at the arena will serve as the home venue for UCF's volleyball program.
Crews recently completed the new main entrance of the new facility, which is located on the east side of the building, next to the UCF Soccer Complex.
