March 19, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - With freshmen playing a nation-leading 91.0 percent of UCF's minutes during the 2007-08 campaign, the Knights recorded one of the most successful seasons in recent history under the direction of first-year head coach Joi Williams.

In just one season at the helm of the Knights program, Williams has set the UCF women's basketball program on a clear course for future success.

"I am excited about the future of UCF women's basketball," Williams said. "My team has grown tremendously from the time of walking into summer school last June until now. We have a lot to build on from this past year and we are going to come back with a vengeance."

The Williams Effect Has Produced:

  • The team's most wins in three seasons with 10 victories during the 2007-08 campaign.
  • The team's most road conference wins (3) since 2005-06.
  • The Conference USA Freshman of the Year - Tia Lewis - Marking the first time in school history that UCF has won a conference Freshman of the Year award.
  • Two players (Emma Cannon and Tia Lewis) named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team in the same year. It marked the first time in school history that the Knights have had two players named to an all-freshman team in the same season.
  • A player (Tia Lewis) named All-Conference USA for the first time in school history. It marked the first time since the 2004-05 season that the Knights have had a player named to an all-conference team.
  • The school's all-time single-season rebounds leader (Tia Lewis).
  • The most combined double-doubles by freshmen (26) of any team in the nation.
