IRVING, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - After posting a fourth-place finish against some of the nation's top teams, UCF junior Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md.) earned Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week honors on Wednesday, the league office announced. Connelly set career bests for 18 and 54-hole scores en route to a fourth-place showing at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic.
Competing against a field with six of the nations' top 30 teams, the junior finished the tournament with an even-par score of 216. She ranked second in the 90-player field for birdies made during the three-round event with 13, including registering five in each of her first two rounds.
In Saturday's second round, Connelly carded a 70 (-2), which included a stretch of three-consecutive holes where she made birdie. Her 70 (-2) was the lowest 18-hole of her UCF career and lowest round by a Knight this season. The weekly award is the second of Connelly's career, as she also earned the honor on Oct. 24, 2007.
Connelly shared the honor with Tulsa's Michaela Cavener.
The Knights are slated to return to action on Friday, competing at the Liz Murphy Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga.
