ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Holding a 7-7 record for the 2008 campaign, the UCF women's tennis team closes out its five-match home stand starting Thursday when it hosts No. 48 Tulsa at 2 p.m. The Knights also battle UTEP Saturday at 9 a.m. and Wisconsin Sunday at noon, with matches slated to be held at the UCF Tennis Complex. Admission is free to all events.
The Knights went 1-1 last weekend with a win over Syracuse but a loss to No. 49 Dartmouth. As a team, UCF has racked up 84 singles wins, led by Jenny Frisell and Anna Yakimchenkova who each have 14. Meanwhile, over in doubles the combination of Jennifer Carati and Elvira Serrot continue to dominate as they have won seven in a row. The duo is also 10-3 in dual-match play this year.
No. 48 Tulsa stands at 13-4 after defeating SMU, 5-2, March 16. The Golden Hurricane have posted two separate winning streaks of five matches, and have only dropped contests to LSU, Arkansas, Wichita State and Louisville.
UTEP will bring a 7-6 mark into the weekend, but will tangle with Drake on Friday before meeting up with the Knights. The Miners have lost four-straight decisions, but have not played a Conference USA opponent this year.
For Wisconsin, the Badgers are 6-8 with a recent win over Miami (Ohio) March 15. The match-up with the Knights will serve as UW's only contest while it is in the Sunshine State.
UCF has a 0-2 record against Tulsa, with losses coming in 2002 and 2007. The Knights, though, have a 2-1 mark against UTEP, including a 4-0 win in the 2006 C-USA Championships, and a 1-1 record vs. Wisconsin.
