ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Redshirt freshman Ereck Plancher, a wide receiver on the UCF football team, passed away at 11:51 a.m. Tuesday morning at Florida Hospital East Orlando.
A native of Naples, Fla., Plancher graduated early from Lely High School in December of 2006 and enrolled at UCF in January of 2007 to begin his football career for the Knights. At the prep level, Plancher was an all-conference and all-area performer.
"Ereck was a tremendous young man with a bright future. The entire UCF football family is saddened by the loss of Ereck," said head coach George O'Leary. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this truly difficult time."
Plancher did not appear in any games for the Knights during the 2007 season.
The football team was scheduled to begin spring practices on Wednesday, March 19, but the start of those sessions has been postponed until further notice.
