ORLANDO, Fla. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - UCF Director of Athletics Keith R. Tribble has announced that Associate Director of Athletics Joe Hornstein will add the oversight of the UCF Athletics Association's marketing and promotions department to his job specification. His title will change to Associate Athletics Director for Marketing and Communications.
Hornstein presently oversees the Knights' office of athletics communications, encompassing the media operations for the school's 16 intercollegiate athletics programs, the UCFAthletics.com official website and public and corporate communications, in addition to serving as an official spokesperson for the UCFAA. He also serves as the supervising administrator for the athletics' video services department.
"This is a great opportunity for Joe, one we felt would be in our best interest to allow him to pursue," said Tribble. "We've made significant strides with our athletics communications department since Joe's arrival in 2006 and our goal is to bring similar growth, structure and success to our marketing and promotions effort."
In his new capacity, Hornstein will oversee the redevelopment of the Knights' marketing and promotions structure heading into the 40th anniversary of the school's athletics program in 2008-09. He will also serve as an organizational liaison with ISP Sports on matters dealing with UCF-ISP Sports Properties. UCF's championship spirit program and the Marching Knights will also tie into his new role overseeing the implementation of the UCFAA's marketing and communication efforts.
The primary focus of the athletics communications office since Hornstein's hire in August 2006 has been to recreate the media relations strategies and promotional plans that support the Knights' intercollegiate athletics program.
Prior to joining the UCFAA, Hornstein, 36, spent four years overseeing the media relations efforts for the Orange Bowl Committee (OBC) in Miami, Fla., most recently as the organization's vice president of communications. His primary responsibility was the management of the media operations for the FedEx Orange Bowl and Festival week along with fostering the OBC's media relationships on a national level and within the Atlantic Coast Conference geographic footprint.
