WINTER PARK, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Taking part in its third-straight regatta in Winter Park, the UCF rowing team swept all six events at Rollins College Spring Break Race on Lake Maitland Saturday. The Knights' novice and lightweight boats competed in the regatta, and faced host Rollins, Georgia and Washington College.
The varsity 8+ race featured the UCF lightweight posting a time of 7:02.9 to take home first place. The novice eight finished second with a time of 7:11.2. Over in the varsity 4+, UCF cruised to a 15-second win with Rollins coming in second. The Knights also delivered a 14-second win in the varsity 4+ "B" race. The lightweight 4+, meanwhile, crushed Rollins by 32 seconds in its respective race.
UCF's other novice boats had little trouble collecting victories. The "A" squad earned first in the novice 4+ by completing the course in 8:24.0, and the second novice eight defeated Georgia by almost 20 seconds in the novice 8+ event.
A huge weekend is in store for the Knights when they get back in the water. UCF will send its varsity teams to Austin, Texas, for the Longhorn Invitational March 21-23, while the Knights will also be represented at the Petrakis Cup March 22 in Jacksonville.
