ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - With a 6-6 record through the first 12 matches of the season, the UCF women's tennis team will stay in the friendly confines of the UCF Tennis Complex for its next five contests. The Knights will host Syracuse Friday at 2 p.m. while welcoming No. 49 Dartmouth to town Sunday at noon.
UCF recently traveled to Houston, where its match vs. the University of Houston was cancelled due to rain and it suffered a 5-2 loss to No. 75 Rice. However, freshman Jenny Frisell continued her impressive season with a win at No. 1 singles to give her a 14-7 record for 2007-08. Senior Anna Yakimchenkova also claimed a singles victory over Rice to boost her record to 13-10. Meanwhile, the doubles tandem of senior Jennifer Carati and junior Elvira Serrot are forming a dominating pair, as the duo has won five-straight matches.
Bringing a 6-8 record into the weekend, Syracuse has lost four-consecutive decisions, but has posted wins over Cincinnati, Georgetown, Niagara, Bucknell, Seton Hall and Connecticut. The Orange are 0-1 vs. nationally-ranked programs and 2-7 away from home. For the year, SU is a combined 47-37 in singles play and 20-22 in doubles.
For No. 49 Dartmouth, the Big Green will serve as the seventh ranked team to take on UCF this year. Dartmouth owns a perfect 7-0 record, collecting victories against Boston College, Maryland, Georgetown, Boston University, Quinnipiac, UMass and Rutgers. Before battling the Knights, Dartmouth will tangle with USF Saturday in Tampa.
All matches at the UCF Tennis Complex are free to the public.
