IRVING, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF senior guard Dave Noel (Boynton Beach, Fla./Boynton Beach) has earned a spot on the Conference USA All-Defensive Team, the league office announced Tuesday. This season, the shooting guard helped lead the Knights to a fourth-place showing in the 12-team conference.
Noel is the first UCF player to garner a spot on the league's all-defensive team. The Knights are in their third campaign in C-USA.
Each contest, Noel typically guards the opponent's best perimeter player. At Houston on March 5, he helped limit the Cougars' Robert McKiver to 15 points on 4-of-15 shooting from the floor. McKiver entered the contest 10th nationally in scoring at 23.1 points per game.
Noel is 10th in the league, averaging 1.3 steals per game.
The conference's 12 head coaches and media members in each league city selected the members of the all-defensive team.
Thanks to Noel, the Knights are in the top-half of the league statistics in field-goal percentage defense (41.4) and 3-point field-goal percentage defense (33.5).
Noel, who is in his third season with the Knights after transferring from UNC-Wilmington, has recorded 94 career steals at UCF.
UCF (16-14) went 9-7 in C-USA play, earning a first-round bye at the league championship in Memphis, Tenn. The Knights will play either No. 5 Southern Miss or No. 12 Rice in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 9:30 p.m. EST.
In each of its three years in the league, UCF has finished in the top-five in the C-USA standings.
Joey Dorsey of Memphis was tabbed as the league's defensive player of the year.
