Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF softball team added Penn State to Tuesday's line-up of games and will face the Nittany Lions at 3 p.m. at the UCF Softball Complex. Prior to scheduling the game with Penn State, UCF was originally scheduled to play a doubleheader with Sam Houston State, but with the additional team the Knights will play single games with both squads.
Previewing Penn State
The Nittany Lions face UCF with a 9-7 record on the season, posting wins over East Carolina, Southern Miss, LSU, Tulsa, Maine and NC State, while suffering losses to teams such as Texas, Cal State Fullerton and Michigan.
Desi Giordano leads Penn State at the plate with a .333 batting average, 14 hits, three doubles, three home runs, eight runs scored and nine RBI. In the circle, Ashley Esparza has allowed only 10 earned runs in 64.1 innings pitched, tallying 81 strikeouts and a 1.09 ERA.
Tuesday's meeting marks the second between the two squads, with Penn State securing a 5-0 win over the Knights in 2005 at the UCF Fastpitch Invitational.
