ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - After defeating Florida Gulf Coast, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex, the UCF men's tennis team returns to the courts for its match on Wednesday against Stetson. UCF is looking for its second-consecutive victory at home. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
The Knights' (1-1) match against Florida Gulf Coast was the first official home tilt of the season after the contest against No. 32 Rice was rained out.
Junior Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) won his singles match against Danny Lee in timely fashion. Sakey posted a 6-0, 6-1 win in a match that lasted less than 50 minutes. Freshman Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) also prevailed, earning his first spring singles victory as a Knight.
Sophomore Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) and senior Sinan Sudas (Adana, Turkey) both registered wins in singles play. Sudas' 7-5, 6-1 victory against Mikkel Muller secured the win for the Knights.
Stetson (1-0) played its first match of the spring against Bethune-Cookman last Wednesday. The Hatters cruised to a 7-0 victory. Stetson won all six singles matches in straight sets.
UCF and Stetson met last year in April. The local rivals competed in the Atlantic Sun Conference until the 2006 campaign when UCF moved into Conference USA.
