ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The first UCF men's basketball letterwinners gathering was held in conjunction with the Knights' game with Houston on Saturday. Dozens of former Knights, from recent players to those who were there for the start of the program in 1969, were in attendance at the new UCF Arena.
Regardless of whether of they played for the Knights in the Education Gym on campus or the old UCF Arena, the letterwinners were impressed with the new arena. The program is in its first campaign at the new UCF Arena, which has room for 10,000 fans.
One of the more recent players, Adam Gill, was visiting the new facility for the second time. Gill played for the Knights from 2004-07 and recorded the final basket in the old UCF Arena last year against East Carolina.
"Unbelievable," Gill said when asked about the new arena. "I knew things had changed when I was here for the Tulsa game (Jan. 12) and people were scalping tickets in front of the arena."
The game with the Golden Hurricane was played in front of a school-record 7,097 fans.
Gill earned his bachelor's degree from UCF in political science/international relations and is currently living in Ohio, where he is preparing for law school next year.
Misty Knight of the Golden Knights Club organized the letterwinners gathering and hopes to make it an annual event.
UCF concludes a three-game homestand on Wednesday against Marshall. Tip-off at the new UCF Arena is set for 7 p.m.
The Knights have four home games remaining this season and a ticket package is available for the contests. Call 407-UCF-1000 for more information about the deal.

Notes:Following his 31-point performance against Houston, junior guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla./Tavares) ranks second in C-USA in scoring (21.5)... In UCF's last two games, junior forward/center Kenrick Zondervan (Hoofddorp, Holland) averaged 9.0 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 69.2 percent from the floor.
