ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF's 2008 spring rowing season gets underway Saturday when the Knights travel to Winter Park for the annual Metro Cup with Rollins College. The regatta opens up at 9 a.m. on Lake Maitland.
The Knights' novice 4+ and novice lightweight 4+ will be the first to hit the water. UCF also will compete in the novice 8+ and varsity 8+, as well as send out two lightweight 4+ boats in the varsity 4+ events. The novice 8+ will compete in the varsity race and features coxswain Callie Waers, Katelyn Dawes, Christine Rubino, Samantha Fahed, Tracy Brock, Ashley Stowe, Alyssa Feliciano, Caitlin Bernier and Ashley Gleason.
The lightweight 8+ boat that will race in the varsity 8+ will include coxswain Hillary Trupp, Liz Robinson, Michelle Carter, Lauren Schueler, Taylor Wiatt, Gilly Powell, Kathleen Noble, Samantha Maticka and Briana Lively-Poley.
Saturday's weather conditions should be relatively ideal on the water, with only a slight chance of rain and wind reaching up to eight miles an hour.
In last year's Metro Cup, UCF took three of four events from Rollins, including the novice 8+, lightweight 4+ and the lightweight 8+.
