ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Following its impressive victory at the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational yesterday, the UCF men's golf team moved to No. 20 nationally in the NCAA Golfstat rankings on Wednesday. Head coach Nick Clinard's Knights are the lone Conference USA squad in the top 25.
In taking the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational title, the Knights finished ahead of several nationally-ranked teams, including No. 24 Ole Miss and No. 28 Chattanooga.
Junior Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) and sophomore Mike Stern (Miami, Fla./Killian) helped UCF to the victory, sharing co-medalist honors at the event. The tournament was the second of the spring campaign for the Knights.
The victory was the first for the program since it claimed the same event in 2005.
In 2007-08, UCF has competed in seven tournaments and has recorded top-three team finishes on three occasions.
The Knights will not be in action again until March 23, when they compete at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in South Carolina.
