ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Following consecutive wins over North Florida and Jacksonville, the UCF women's tennis team will host No. 30 USF Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Bulls will be the fifth top-35 program that the Knights will have faced already this season.
Admission to the in-state rivalry, and all UCF tennis matches, is free.
Along with UNF and JU, UCF has also posted victories over Florida Gulf Coast and Florida A&M for a 4-4 record in 2008. The Knights now have three players who all have double-digit wins in singles: freshman Jenny Frisell with 11, and seniors Kyla McNicol and Anna Yakimchenkova with 10 apiece. Senior Jennifer Carati and junior Elvira Serrot continue their impressive run in doubles, posting a 5-3 record at the No. 2 position and are 9-6 overall.
The Bulls have played 12 matches already this year, but have yet to compete at home as their trip to Orlando will end a 13-match road swing. USF owns a 7-5 overall record, including six-straight to open the year, but eventually dropped four matches to top-25 teams and a Big East match to Louisville. Leading the way in singles, No. 88 Janette Bejlkova is 5-0 at the No. 1 spot while Icira Rai has an 8-4 record in dual-match competition. However, in doubles USF has a 14-28 record during 2007-08.
USF claims an 11-3 series record over UCF, as the Black and Gold's last victory occurred in 2004, a 4-3 win in Orlando.
