ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Freshman UCF forward/center Tia Lewis (Poulan, Ga.) is having one of the best rebounding seasons in school history during her rookie campaign. Lewis ranks fifth in the nation in rebounds per game with 11.3 boards per game, according to the latest NCAA statistics that were released Monday.
Lewis has 305 total rebounds on the season, which ranks her fourth all-time on the school's single-season rebound list. She needs three more boards to move into sole possession of third place all-time and just 21 more rebounds to break the school's all-time single season rebound mark. If Lewis were to stay on her current pace of 11.3 rpg, then she would break the record before the regular season ends, as the Knights have two games remaining this week before postseason play commences.
Tamika Coley, the school's all-time leading rebounder with 1,211 career boards, currently holds the UCF single-season record with 325 rebounds during the 1993-94 season. Coley is the only player in school history to bring down more than 1,000 rebounds and she also is the only player to have each of her four seasons rank on the school's top-10 single-season list.
Freshman forward Emma Cannon (Rochester, N..Y.) has 235 rebounds this year and needs one more to tie Cynthia Jacobs (236 in 1977-78) for 10th place all-time on the single-season rebounds list at UCF.
Not only is Lewis one of the school's all-time single-season leaders in rebounding, her .547 shooting percentage this season ranks her fifth all-time in school single-season annals. Lewis currently ranks 35th in the nation in shooting percentage.
