ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Conference USA released its first 2008 weekly award winners Monday, and UCF shortstop Dwayne Bailey was selected as the C-USA Hitter of the Week for his performance vs. Florida A&M Feb. 22-24. The senior helped lead the Knights (3-0) to a three-game sweep of the Rattlers, outscoring FAMU 50-5 on the weekend.
A native of Tampa, Fla., Bailey opened the 2008 season by setting career-highs with five hits and four runs in a 17-1 win over FAMU Feb. 22. He followed that up with a 3-for-5 affair the next day, falling just a home run short of hitting for the cycle, as UCF defeated the Rattlers 16-2. To cap off the series, Bailey posted two hits, two runs and two steals in a 17-2 triumph.
Overall, Bailey was 10-for-15 for a .667 average and a .933 slugging percentage. He notched two doubles, a triple, seven runs scored, two RBI, two walks, no strikeouts, a sacrifice bunt and three stolen bases.
The weekly accolade from C-USA was the first of Bailey's career.
The Knights return to the diamond Monday when they host No. 6 Missouri at 3 p.m.
