HATTIESBURG, Miss. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team begins the three-day Conference USA Shootout against Southern Miss on Friday in Hattiesburg, Miss. First serve is set for 2 p.m. EST at the Hattiesburg Racquet Club.
The Knights (2-3) have hosted the past two C-USA Shootouts and ended both tournaments with a 3-0 record.
UCF has been getting strong play as of late from the doubles team of juniors Tarek Ben Soltane (Tunis, Tunisia) and Danny Colon (Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood). The two are 2-0 in spring play and recently knocked off No. 26 Miami's Keith Crowley and Hector Nieto, 8-7(4), at the No. 3 spot.
Ben Soltane also picked up his first singles win in Coral Gables against the Hurricanes' Crowley, 6-0, 6-2.
Southern Miss (1-6) did not compete in last year's league event, but did notch a victory in 2005 against East Carolina.
The Golden Eagles are on a six-match slide with five of the losses coming at the hands of nationally-ranked opponents.
UCF is 1-0 all-time against Southern Miss. The two teams met in the 2005 C-USA Shootout with the Knights cruising to 6-0 win.
