Feb. 20, 2008

IRVING, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - After posting a top-10 finish at one of the most prestigious events in the nation, UCF junior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla./Melbourne) garnered Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week honors on Wednesday, the league office announced. On Tuesday, Johnson tied for ninth at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

The event featured 10 squads ranked in the top-30 nationally according to Golfstat, including the No. 23 Knights.

Johnson carded a one-under 71 on the final day of play at the Sawgrass Country Club to finish at 218 (+2). In the second round of the three-day tournament, he posted an even-par 72.

The tournament included three teams that are ranked in the top-five nationally and was the first of the spring for Johnson and the Knights. In 2007-08, Johnson has recorded three top-10 finishes and paces UCF with a 72.1 stroke average.

He shared the C-USA award, which was the first of his career, with UAB's Zach Sucher. Johnson is in his first campaign with the Knights after transferring from Brevard Community College.

The squad will return to action on Monday, hosting the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational in Orlando.
