ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's tennis team has not played a home match since Feb. 3, but that streak finally ends when the Knights welcome North Florida to the UCF Tennis Complex Wednesday at 2 p.m. Admission is free for all fans wishing to attend the match.
UCF has played a very difficult schedule to open the 2008 season. It will bring a 2-4 record into Wednesday's meeting with the Ospreys as all four losses have been to programs ranked in the top 35. In their last outing, the Knights dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 33 Florida International, with senior Kyla McNicol provided her team with a singles win at the No. 3 position. McNicol currently leads UCF with a 61.5 winning percentage (8-5) in singles action. Over in doubles, senior Jennifer Carati and junior Elvira Serrot continue to form an exciting pair as they have notched three victories at No. 2.
North Florida enters the week with a 2-3 record, including wins over Bethune-Cookman and Hofstra. Three Ospreys already have double-digit singles victories for the season, as Carolina Melo and Vanessa Sanchez each have 11 and Ina Durcakova has collected 10. Sanchez has amassed a 4-0 record while playing the top three singles positions, and has a seven-match winning streak overall.
The series with North Florida is tied at 3-3, with the Ospreys claiming a 6-1 decision last year in Jacksonville. However, the Knights posted a 5-1 triumph in the last meeting in Orlando in 2006.
