Three Knights Named to Hawaii Paradise Classic All-Tournament Team

Feb. 19, 2008

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - After returning home Monday from the Hawaii Paradise Classic, the UCF softball team learned that three Knights had earned a spot on the Hawaii Paradise Classic All-Tournament Team. Pitcher Allison Kime (Brandon, Fla.), first baseman Breanne Javier (Castaic, Fla.) and centerfielder Ashley Van Ryn (Atlanta, Ga.) all represented the Black and Gold on the 12-member squad voted on by coaches and media members.

Kime finished the tournament with a 3-1 record and a 0.36 ERA. The senior allowed only one earned run in 24.2 innings of work while totaling 20 strikeouts over the weekend. Kime also recorded five hits, including a three-run home run, in the Knights' 6-0 win over Kentucky on Saturday.

Javier was almost unstoppable at the plate for UCF in the Hawaii tournament. She batted .565, going 13-for-23 in the seven-game event. The first baseman recorded at least one hit in all seven of the Knights' contests in the Aloha State, including a 3-for-3 performance with a solo home run in the game against Long Beach State and a 3-for-4 performance against Kentucky both on Feb. 16. Javier had four multiple hit games during the week and totaled four RBI, a .739 slugging percentage and a .560 on-base percentage.

Van Ryn concluded the event with a .222 batting average, with two of her four hits being doubles. The senior scored four runs and posted a .300 on-base percentage, while not committing an error in seven starts in center field.

As a team, the Knights finished the Hawaii Paradise Classic with a 3-4 record, picking up wins over Long Beach State and Kentucky. UCF batted .247 with 48 hits, including six doubles and six home runs.

The Black and Gold continues its nine-game road trip Wednesday and Thursday with games against Stetson and Bethune-Cookman. Wednesday's game against the Hatters is slated for 5 p.m., while Thursday's contest is scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
