PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team completed the second round of play at the John Hayt Invitational on Monday at the Sawgrass Country Club. Entering the final day of play, UCF junior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla./Melbourne) is tied for 18th in the individual standings.
The Knights, who are ranked 23rd nationally, are in 14th with a team score of 606 (+30). The three-day, three-round tournament, which will conclude on Tuesday, features 10 teams ranked in the top 30.
On Monday, Johnson carded an even-par 72. He has a two-day total of 147 (+3). Sophomore Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) is competing as an individual. He recorded a three-over 75 in the second round and is tied for 22nd at 148 (+4).
The tournament is the first of the spring campaign for UCF.
Junior Preston Brown (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) registered a one-over 73 today and is tied for 35th (150, +6). Fellow junior Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) is tied for 62nd (155, +11) after a four-over 76 on Monday.
Sophomore Mike Stern (Miami, Fla./Killian) is tied for 64th at 156 (+12). He posted a nine-over 81 in the second round. Senior Chris Anderson (Lake Mary, Fla./Seminole) is also in action for the Knights. He posted a seven-over 79 in the second round and is tied for 76 at 161 (+17).
The field endured a one hour and 50 minute rain delay in the morning.
No. 4 Alabama leads the event at 583 (+7). Host North Florida is second (585, +7).
Georgia State's Joel Sjoholm (139, -5) is first in the individual standings after carding a two-under 70 on Monday.
Play at the event will conclude Tuesday.
