ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF's four-match road swing comes to a close this weekend when the women's tennis team travels south to square off with No. 7 Miami Saturday and No. 33 Florida International Sunday. The Knights own a 2-2 record and have already faced two programs ranked higher than 35th in the country this season.
UCF split two matches last weekend, dropping a 7-0 decision at No. 22 Florida State before sweeping Florida A&M, 7-0, the following afternoon. Three Knights bring at least eight singles victories with them into this week's action: Jenny Frisell - nine, Jennifer Carati - eight, Anna Yakimchenkova - eight. Meanwhile, Carati has teamed up with Elvira Serrot to post a team-high six doubles wins.
Miami has had just one blemish to its record this year, a 4-3 loss to No. 1 Stanford at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, but still holds a 5-1 overall mark. The Hurricanes have defeated Florida Atlantic, then-No. 31 Florida International, No. 30 Michigan, No. 13 William & Mary and No. 7 California, and will tangle with No. 10 Baylor a day after battling the Knights.
Florida International has played a difficult schedule as well en route to a 1-2 record. Following a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Miami to begin the year, the Golden Panthers suffered a 7-0 loss to No. 18 Arizona State but bounced back to edge No. 38 Arizona, 5-2. Sunday's match against UCF marks FIU's home opener, and it will not play another match in Miami until March 4.
All-time, UCF holds an 0-7 record vs. the Hurricanes, while the Black and Gold claims a 7-17 mark against the Golden Panthers. UCF, though, has not defeated FIU since the 1998-99 season.
