MIAMI, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team is back on the road again as it takes on No. 26 Miami on Friday. First serve at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center is set for 2 p.m. The match with the Hurricanes marks the third of seven-ranked opponents the Knights have on their schedule.
UCF (2-2) earned its second win of the 2008 campaign against Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach on Saturday, 6-1.
Freshman Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) earned his first spring singles win at No. 3 against Stefan James, 6-3, 6-2. Also in singles, junior Danny Colon (Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood) earned his second consecutive-win in as many matches. Colon took a 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 5 against Jerome Ward.
The Hurricanes are 4-2 on the season, including a 3-0 record at home. Miami is coming off a 5-2 loss at the hands of Rice. The only other loss on the season for Miami came at No. 3 Ohio State.
The Hurricanes Daniel Vallverdu is the eighth ranked player in the nation singles. Vallverdu is 5-1 this spring and boasts a 13-3 overall mark.
Miami also has three top-50 doubles pairings in Vivek Subramanian and David Rosenfeld, Daniel Vallverdu and Carl Sundberg and Daniel Vallverdu and David Rosenfeld. Subramanian and Rosenfeld are 4-1 in dual-match play.
The Knights are playing their last of six straight tilts in the state of Florida.
UCF hosted Miami last year in Feb. at the UCF Tennis Complex.
