Feb. 14, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - With the Knights ready to open their spring campaign this weekend, the UCF men's golf team learned earlier in the week that it had moved to 21st nationally in the latest Golfstat NCAA rankings. UCF is the lone Conference USA team in the top 25.

During the fall, head coach Nick Clinard's team competed in five events and finished in the top-10 in each tournament. The Knights finished third in a pair of events, including the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate Championship in late October. The tournament in North Carolina was the last of the fall for the Knights.

UCF will open its spring campaign on Sunday at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The team is slated to compete in six events in the spring.

Georgia is first in the Golfstat rankings, followed by Charlotte, Alabama, UCLA and Oklahoma State.

In the fall, three Knights recorded top-10 individual finishes, including junior Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County), who posted a third-place showing at the tournament in North Carolina. Senior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla./Melbourne) had a pair of top-10 performances.
