Ginn Tribute Hosted By ANNIKA To Provide Sponsor's Exemption for UCF Challenge Medalist

Feb. 13, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF head women's golf coach Emilee Klein announced on Wednesday that the medalist winner from the 2008 UCF Challenge will receive a sponsor's exemption to the Ginn Tribute hosted by ANNIKA. This marks the second-consecutive year the winner from the Challenge will get the opportunity to play in an LPGA event.

"We are so excited and honored that Annika (Sorenstam) has given us the opportunity to provide the champion of the UCF Challenge a sponsor's exemption into the Ginn Tribute," Klein said. "It will be a great experience for one of the girls to be able to play against the world's best LPGA players."

The second-annual UCF Challenge is slated for March 9-11 at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.

The $2.6 million Ginn Tribute hosted by ANNIKA will be played for the second-consecutive year at RiverTowne Country Club in Charleston, S.C., May 26-June 1, 2008. Sorenstam, who was a two-time All-American at Arizona, served as the guest speaker at the inaugural UCF Challenge tournament dinner in 2007 and with this year's sponsor's exemption to her professional tournament, stays connected to what is quickly becoming one of the most elite collegiate women's golf tournaments in the country.

"As a proud supporter of women's collegiate golf, I am excited to offer a sponsor's exemption into the Ginn Tribute Hosted by ANNIKA to the medalist of the UCF Challenge," Annika said. "This will be an excellent opportunity for an individual get a taste of what the LPGA Tour has to offer at a very competitive and challenging event."

Duke's Amanda Blumenherst was the recipient of an invitation to play in the Sybase Classic during the 2007 LGPA season after she recorded an 12-stroke victory in the inaugural UCF Challenge a year ago. Blumenherst and the three-time defending national champion Blue Devils will headline this year's 18-team field.
