Women's Tennis Welcomes FGCU in 2008 Home Opener Sunday

Feb. 1, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's tennis team kicks off its home schedule Sunday when it hosts Florida Gulf Coast at the UCF Tennis Complex at 9:30 a.m. It will be the first meeting between the two programs as this season marks the first for FGCU in Division I play.

At the conclusion of the women's match, the UCF men's squad also will welcome Florida Gulf Coast at noon.

The Knights (0-1) have not seen action since a 7-0 loss to No. 4 Florida in Gainesville Jan. 24. However, they opened the spring campaign with the FGCU Tournament Jan. 19-21, where the Black and Gold got a taste of the style of play that the Eagles offer. And combined with the fall-tournament schedule, the Knights have a combined 13-2 record against FGCU in singles and a 2-0 mark in doubles.

For the season, UCF's two freshmen, Isa Ohlinger and Jenny Frisell, lead the way with seven singles wins apiece. The Knights' own an overall mark of 42-35 in singles, while they have a 22-14 mark in doubles.

Florida Gulf Coast stands at 0-1 for 2008 as it dropped a 7-0 decision to USF Jan. 12, and it will take on Bethune-Cookman Saturday before traveling to Orlando. The Eagles went 13-6 a year ago and were ranked at No. 22 in the final Division II poll.

Following the match with the Eagles, UCF will not be home again until Feb. 20 when it hosts North Florida at 2 p.m.
