Women's Tennis Visits No. 22 Florida State, Florida A&M This Weekend

Feb. 7, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - After celebrating its home opener with a 7-0 shutout of Florida Gulf Coast Feb. 3, the UCF women's tennis team travels to Tallahassee to battle No. 22 Florida State Saturday at 11 a.m. and Florida A&M Sunday at 10 a.m. The Knights currently stand at 1-1 on the season as they enter a four-match road trip, their longest of the season.

UCF cruised past FGCU to pick up its first win of the year, as the Black and Gold swept all three doubles matches and dropped just one set in singles action. The Knights have already won 48 singles matches dating back to the fall, and own a 64.1 winning percentage in doubles play (25-14).

After a two-year absence on the UCF schedule, Florida State takes on the Knights for the sixth time in the schools' histories with FSU claiming a 5-0 all-time lead. The Seminoles have already defeated Rice, Illinois and Stetson by 7-0 tallies to open with a 3-0 record, and are led by No. 16 Katie Rybakova, No. 60 Carolin Walter and No. 74 Tapiwa Marobela.

Following the meeting with Florida State, UCF stays in Tallahassee to clash with Florida A&M the next day. This will be the seventh-straight season the two programs collide with the Knights holding a commanding 12-0 lead in the series. The Rattlers have suffered two losses on the year, a 6-1 defeat to Jacksonville and a 7-0 shutout vs. Georgia State. FAMU also meets FSU this weekend before taking on the Knights.
