ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - A flip of the calendar to the month of February signified the UCF women's soccer team's beginning of spring action as the Knights announced their upcoming schedule Tuesday. The Black and Gold will kick off competition by hosting the University of Victoria (British Columbia) Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex.
Following a home meeting with the Vikes, UCF heads to the Lonestar Star to battle Texas Tech and Texas Feb. 23. Texas Tech went 7-8-2 a year ago with a 5-4-1 mark in the Big 12. The Longhorns, meanwhile, advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of last year's NCAA Tournament to finish with a 16-4-5 record.
A week later, the Knights will hold their home tournament March 1, as well as a contest with the St. Andrews Co-Ed Adult Team March 28 at 7 p.m. The annual alumni game is slated for March 29 at 1 p.m. with the celebration dinner at 7 p.m.
To close out the competition portion of the schedule, UCF tangles with BYU in Tallahassee April 5, then with Florida State April 12 in Melbourne. BYU (17-4-2) also earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament only to drop a 2-0 decision to Texas in the first round. UCF and FSU battled to a 3-3 draw in Orlando in 2007, and the Seminoles eventually advanced to the national championship match before falling to USC, 2-0.
The Knights are coming off a 15-4-4 season and their 12th berth in the NCAA Tournament, where they reached the second round following a 3-1 win over Auburn in their opening game. UCF has posted seven-straight winning seasons under head coach Amanda Cromwell, who just completed her ninth year at the helm of the Knights' program.
