Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Fresh off of a Conference USA Championship and 10-win season, the UCF football team added to its numbers on Friday as head coach George O'Leary announced the addition of three players to its squad for the 2008 season.
The trio of players includes one junior college transfer and a pair of grayshirts, who originally signed to play for the Knights in 2007. All three will be enrolled in classes beginning in January and will be eligible to work out and participate in 2008 spring practices. The threesome of newcomers will count towards the 2008 signing class.
"We are very happy to be adding these three players to our roster, including two players that we were going to sign last year," O'Leary said. "It is a very positive note when you can add the athleticism these three will bring to our team for your spring practices."
Defensive end Jarvis Geathers is transferring to UCF from Feather River College in Quincy, Calif., where he spent two seasons following a prep career at Andrews (S.C.) High School. Geathers will have three years to play two seasons for the Knights. Geathers was named to the NorCal All-Conference team this past season after racking up 60 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. He was the Region 6-AA Lineman of the Year in South Carolina as a prep senior.
Joining Geathers as January enrollees at UCF are defensive back Chad Keys and linebacker Josh Linam.
Keys, who will play defense for the Knights, was named first team Class 5A All-State as a wide receiver by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association after hauling in 61 passes for 1,295 yards and 14 touchdowns for St. Paul's School (Covington, La.) in the fall of 2006. As a junior, Keys caught 28 passes for 481 yards and four touchdowns.
Linam earned four letters in football for coach George Sneed at Tavares (Fla.) High School. He was named to the Class 3A All-State second team by the Florida Sports Writers Association in 2006 and awarded 3A-District 8 Player of the Year honors after registering 110 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles and one interception.
