Jan. 30, 2008
Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF senior Leger Douzable will play in the second-annual Texas vs. the Nation Collegiate All-Star Bowl scheduled for this Saturday at 5 p.m. ET in El Paso, Texas. Douzable will be the first Knight to participate in the bowl game when he lines up for the Nation team in a game that will be broadcast live by CSTV.
Douzable was an All-Conference USA first team performer in 2007 when he helped lead the Knights to the league championship. He led the team with 7.5 sacks - a total that ranked third in C-USA. The Tampa native also registered a career-high 49 tackles, including a team-high 14 for loss during UCF's 10-win season.
Douzable's Nation team will be coached by former NFL coaching legend Buddy Ryan, while the Texas team will be directed by Gene Stallings, who spent time coaching at the collegiate ranks with both Texas A&M and Alabama. Douzable appeared in 49 games during his tenure at UCF, collecting 15 sacks and 102 tackles.
The game will be played at the Sun Bowl, which also serves as the home for Conference USA rival UTEP. The Knights will make their first trip out to El Paso in 2008 to face the Miners.
Douzable joins classmate Josh Sitton as UCF participants in postseason all-star games in 2008. Sitton played three different offensive line positions for the South team in the 2008 Hula Bowl on Jan. 11 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
