Harris Named UCF Track and Field Athlete of the Week

Jan. 28, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF freshman Lizzie Harris (Miami, Fla.) has been named the Knights' track and field athlete of the week, as decided by the team's coaching staff on Monday.

Harris has tied or set six school records in the team's first two meets this season. At the Tom Jones Memorial Classic this past weekend, Harris set the freshman indoor record in the high jump with a leap of 5-8.75. That mark also tie the school record in the event, which has been accomplished three previous times in school history, with LeSundra Ford last accomplishing the feat during the 2005 indoor campaign.

Two weeks ago at the Virginia Tech Invitational, Harris set both the school's indoor and freshman indoor records in the 200 and 400-meter dashes.

Following each week of competition, head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert and her staff will nominate an athlete to be the school's track and field athlete of the week based on the previous weekend's meet. That athlete will then be eligible to be considered for the Conference USA Athlete of the Week, announced each Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
