Jan. 24, 2008

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Leading up to the UCF softball season-opener against Illinois State on Feb. 8, UCFAtheltics.com will introduce fans to the Knights in a series of feature interviews. The series continues with sophomore second baseman Hillary Barrow. The native of Miami, Fla., discusses her goals for the season and her celebrity crush.

With the season closely approaching, what are the team's goals for the 2008 season?
To win the Conference USA Championship and to have a better winning record than we did last season.

What are your personal goals for this season?
To bat over .300 and to make less errors.

What do you see as this teams' biggest strength?
I think how we act more like a family than just people who play softball together is a big strength. I think that will help us win in conference.

What have you tried to improve upon since last season?
I've tried to improve my hitting to the right side. I have been focusing a lot more on waiting on the ball in able to get it over there.

Which team on the 2008 schedule are you most looking forward to playing and why?
I'm most looking forward to playing Houston because everyone underestimates us against them, so I think it would be big if we beat them.

Do you have any game superstitions?
I always have to wear an even amount of things. I count how many things I am wearing and if it's not even then I feel like we are going to lose.

What is your most embarrassing moment on the softball field?
There have been times when I've had a really nice hit, and then I ruined it by falling.

Who is the goofiest person on the team?
Ashley Van Ryn

Who is the most motherly on the team?
Lexi Gresham

If you could go on a date with any celebrity who would it be?
Johnny Depp! I love how he looks in eyeliner.

If you could be any T.V. show character who would you be and why?
I think I would be the guy from Reno 911 who wears the short shorts, because he runs like a cheetah.

What is one thing that most people don't know about you?
That I'm double-jointed.

The team will make its 2008 debut at the UCF Softball Complex when they host the UCF Tournament Feb. 8-10 facing-off against Illinois State, NC State, Kansas and Central Arkansas. Season tickets for the 2008 season are now available and can be purchased by calling 407-UCF-1000.
