ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Not only is UCF junior guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla./Tavares) one of the top offensive players in Conference USA this year, he is also the top scorer in the state of Florida. Taylor's 20.7 points per game are enough to lead the Sunshine State.
Currently, 13 in-state schools sponsor Division I basketball and Taylor's scoring average is tops among all players from the Florida programs. USF's Kentrell Gransberry is second at 16.8 points per game. Gransberry is followed by Carlos Monroe of Florida Atlantic (16.5) and Jack McClinton of Miami (16.4).
In C-USA games, Taylor is averaging a league-high 24.3 points. At East Carolina on Saturday, he recorded a career-best 32 points.
A year ago, Josh Peppers paced UCF in scoring at 14.3 points per contest.
Last season, Taylor played in all 31 contests as a reserve and totaled 395 points. Through 17 games in 2007-08, he has already scored 352 points. This campaign, he has paced the Knights in scoring 14 times and has recorded 20-point performances on 12 occasions.
Thanks to Taylor, UCF is off to a 3-0 start in C-USA play. The Knights are 10-7 overall.
UCF's next game is set for Wednesday at home versus UTEP at 7 p.m. at the new UCF Arena.
The UCF Athletics Association is currently offering a pair of special ticket deals. The C-USA Pack includes tickets to all seven of the Knights' remaining C-USA games in Orlando for $105.
The 3-Point Pack provides fans with tickets to games against UAB (Jan. 30), Houston (Feb. 2) and Rice (March 1) for $39. That package also includes a ticket to the UCF women's game versus East Carolina prior to the men's contest on Feb. 2.
