ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Eugene Dolgovykh, who signed a National Letter of Intent with the UCF men's tennis team in November, recently claimed the championship at the 18s Winter Sectional in Tampa. The event concluded Monday at the City of Tampa Tennis Complex at Hillsborough Community College.
Dolgovykh, of Palm Coast, did not lose a set in any of his five victories. In the finals, he posted a 6-3, 7-6(6) win over No. 2 seed Sekou Bangoura, Jr.
He will join the UCF program next fall as a freshman. At 6-foot-2, he is listed as a five-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net.
Dolgovykh is currently attending Matanzas High School.
UCF opens the 2008 spring campaign on Friday at the USF Invitational in Tampa. The Knights spent several weeks in the national rankings a year ago, moving to as high as No. 62.
