Dallas, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - Despite getting a team-high 13 points from freshman Marshay White (Rochester, N.Y.), the UCF women's basketball team fell to SMU, 90-62, Friday night at the Moody Coliseum.

Tia Lewis (Poulan, Ga.) added 12 points and 12 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season, while Emma Cannon (Rochester, N.Y.) had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Knights.

With the loss, the Black and Gold falls to 7-8 on the season and 0-2 in Conference USA action. The Mustangs improve their record to 11-4 overall and 1-1 in league play.

UCF shot .433 from the floor and .750 from the free throw line in the contest, while the Mustangs shot .473 from the field and .833 from the charity stripe. But, the Knights could only connect on one of 10 attempts from the three-point line with SMU hitting nine of its 12 attempts.

Turnovers also ailed the Black and Gold in the game, with SMU taking advantage of 25 UCF miscues for 24 points.

Down 47-25 with 2:37 to play in the first half, UCF put together a 7-0 run to end the opening period behind five points from Jackie Akers (Cape Coral, Fla.). Akers returned to the lineup for the first time after missing four games due to injury. The junior finished the contest with seven points, five rebounds and three blocked shots in 23 minutes of work.

Lewis led the Knights in the first half with 10 points and nine rebounds, while White added nine points and four rebounds for the visiting team.

SMU opened the second half with a 24-6 run to go up 71-40 with 11:40 to play in the game, which was too much for the Knights to overcome.

After missing the majority of the opening half because of foul trouble, Cannon scored all 10 of her points and six rebounds in the second half, leading her team on an 8-3 run to end the game. The freshman had four points, two rebounds and a blocked shot during the stretch.

The Knights continue their two-game road-stint when they travel to Tulsa, Okla., for a meeting with the Golden Hurricane. The contest is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
