Dec. 8, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF junior Kevin Smith was introduced as one of two first team running backs on the Football Writers Association of America's 64th All-America Team revealed live on ABC television Saturday. This year's team was sponsored by AT&T and voted on by a select committee of FWAA members. Smith and Arkansas running back Darren McFadden were also named to the CBSSports.com First Team, which was announced earlier in the day.

Smith has now garnered four first team All-America accolades and a second team honor from Rivals.com in the past week. Besides his two newest honors, the Miami native has also been named to the Walter Camp First Team and Sporting News First Team.

Smith, the nation's leading rusher and scorer, has shared the backfield on all four of his first teams with McFadden. With 2,448 rushing yards in 2007, the junior ranks second all-time on the NCAA Bowl Subdivision single-season list, trailing only Oklahoma State's Barry Sanders. The former Cowboy, who won the 1989 Heisman Trophy winner, rushed for 2,628 yards in 11 regular season games that year.

The Knights, who reached 10 wins in a season for the just the second time in program history with their victory over Tulsa in the Bright House Networks Conference USA Championship Game, will conclude the 2007 campaign on Dec. 29 in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl vs. Mississippi State. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. ET and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
